The GIBUA – Research Group in Biomechanics from the University of Aveiro was created in 2000 and was coordinated by Prof. José Simões and has since been at the forefront of the development of orthopaedic biomechanics in Portugal. Biomechanics is one of the main research and development areas of the TEMA – Centre for Mechanical Engineering and Automation research unit funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.
The research of the GIBUA team is mainly focused on orofacial and orthopaedic biomechanics, studying and developing biomechanical solutions using biomodels, computational and experimental biomechanics for diverse pathological conditions. The biomechanics laboratory provides resources for resident researchers and for undergraduated, master and doctoral students. GIBUA Research Group works in biomechanics pursuing the excellence by means of its experts.
The main areas of knowledge are:
- Computational Biomechanics
- Experimental Biomechanics
- Mechanobiology in Functional Tissue-Engineering
- Medical Devices
- Product Development
- Customized implants and Medical Devices
